Hello, and thanks for reading the small print. These are the terms that cover working with Fortico — the bits we'd usually talk through over a coffee, written down so we're all on the same page. We've tried to keep them plain. If anything's unclear, just ask.

1. Who we are

Fortico is a small creative studio based in Bude, Cornwall. We design brands, build WordPress websites, and help UK businesses look and sound like themselves online. When these terms say "we", "us" or "our", that's who we mean. "You" is the person or business hiring us.

2. Working together

Most of our projects start with a chat, then a written proposal. Once you've signed off the proposal (an email saying "yes, let's go" is fine) and paid the deposit, that proposal — together with these terms — forms the agreement between us.

What we'll do

• Deliver the work described in your proposal, to the timeline we've agreed.
• Keep you in the loop with regular updates and clear next steps.
• Bring care and craft to every part of the project, from the first sketch to the final handover.

What we'll need from you

• Timely feedback, content and approvals — projects move at the pace of the slowest reply.
• One main point of contact, so we're not chasing decisions across half a team.
• Honesty about what's working and what isn't. We'd rather hear it early.

3. Quotes and payments

Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date we send them. Unless we've agreed otherwise in writing, we ask for a 50% deposit before we begin and the remaining 50% on completion, before files or final websites are handed over. Larger projects are usually split into stage payments, set out in your proposal.

Invoices are payable within 14 days. Late payments may incur interest in line with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

4. Revisions and scope

Good design is a conversation, and we build a sensible number of revision rounds into every project. If the brief shifts substantially partway through — new pages, new features, a fresh direction — we'll pause, talk it through, and quote for the extra work before carrying on. No surprise invoices.

The best projects we've worked on have all had one thing in common: an open, honest dialogue between us and the client. That's what we'll always aim for.

5. Ownership and rights

Once your final invoice is paid in full, the rights to the final deliverables — your logo, your website, your designs — are transferred to you. Until then, everything we've produced remains our property.

We retain the right to:

• Keep working files, source files and design explorations as part of our archive.
• Show the finished work in our portfolio, on social media, and in pitches to future clients, unless you ask us not to.
• Use third-party assets (fonts, stock images, plugins) under their own licences, which we'll pass on to you where appropriate.

6. Websites, hosting and maintenance

We build most of our websites on WordPress. Once your site is live, you're responsible for keeping content accurate and up to date. WordPress, themes and plugins need regular updates to stay secure — we offer ongoing care plans for this, but if you'd rather handle it yourself, that's fine too. Just be aware that sites left un-maintained can break, and fixing them later usually costs more than maintaining them in the first place.

We can't guarantee uninterrupted hosting or that every site will be free of bugs forever. The web moves quickly. We'll always do our best to put things right, but some things — third-party outages, browser changes, plugin conflicts — are outside our control.

7. Confidentiality

Anything you share with us in confidence stays in confidence. We won't pass on commercially sensitive information, and we're happy to sign an NDA if your work calls for one.

8. Cancellation

If you need to pause or end a project, let us know in writing as soon as you can. You'll be invoiced for all work completed up to that point, plus any costs we've already committed to on your behalf. Deposits are non-refundable, as they hold your slot in our schedule.

If we ever need to step away from a project — which is rare — we'll give you reasonable notice and hand over everything we've produced to date.

9. Liability

We'll always do our best work for you, but we can't be held liable for losses beyond the value of the project itself. We're a small studio, not an insurance policy. We'd recommend keeping your own backups of important files and content, just as we keep ours.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales — though honestly, in over a decade of doing this, we've never needed them. We'd much rather pick up the phone.
